Tompkins is a public launch site with ample parking.  An outhouse facility is available.
    The section of river below Tompkins is more remote and narrower.  Usually there are some negotiable deadfalls restricting passage.
    This section is nonetheless one of the more beautiful of the upper Grand.  Wildflowers such as Cardinal flower abound, in season.  Wildlife is common.
    During high water the flooded woodlands can make following the river both fun and challenging.
